Long Island has long enjoyed a reputation as one of the most desirable locations to live in all of the United States, a reputation which is well-earned. Long Island features some of the most beautiful, most financially-stable, and safest communities in the country. And of all of these communities, few can match the standard of living offered by Baldwin.
Baldwin, a hamlet of the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, was recently ranked the 25th best location to live in the United States by CNNMoney’s annual Top 100 list, and for good reason. A small community of under 25,000 residents, Baldwin is, according to CNNMoney, “a haven for families,” which is renowned “for its schools, and its proximity to healthy job markets and beaches. Baldwin’s waterfront park is chock full of amenities like a skate park, roller rink and spray pool.”
Particularly noteworthy is Baldwin’s outstanding school system. Students in Baldwin have reading test scores which are 25% higher than the average for New York State, and their math test scores are 27% higher. And these test scores are not the result of parents sending their children to expensive private schools: nearly 90% of all students in Baldwin attend public school. These figures are a clear testament to the quality and care of Baldwin’s education system.
Baldwin is the quintessential family town, offering everything parents could desire for both themselves and their children. It is primarily a quiet, residential community, defined by large, beautiful homes and wide backyards, but also featuring plenty of dining, shopping, and entertainment options.
To a significant degree, Baldwin’s rich offerings are a result of its diverse population, unusually varied relative to most of Long Island. The town is approximately 50% Caucasian, 25% African-American, 15% Hispanic, and the remainder is a mixture of Asian, Pacific Islander, and other races. This mixture of backgrounds is gradually expanding the culinary and other cultural aspects of Baldwin, providing a greater variety of options for all who reside there.
As CNNMoney’s ranking demonstrates, Baldwin has already established itself as one of the premier towns in all of the United States. And as the population continues to grow and become even more diverse, the standard of living in Baldwin can only be expected to reach higher and higher in the upcoming years.
